JAN POPIS – Poland (Warsaw). Musicologist. Music critic. Specialization in the field of piano music.

He studed musicology at the Warsaw University. Since 1975 he began a regular cooperation with the music magazine Ruch Muzyczny, where he published reviews and articles dedicated to the history of piano music. He takes part in musicological symposiums, presenting  reports about piano music, piano playing, as well as chopinological subjects. He is a author of biographical entries of pianists in the polish music encyclopedia.

Since 1975 he has been a musical editor and a broadcaster for the Polish Public Radio in Warsaw. He made a number of radio programmes devoted to piano music, especially Chopin’s music. He is often invited to consult various musical events like festivals and piano competitions like the juror.

Jan Popis  received a prestigious award for the Music Critic of the Year - a medal founded by the Association of Polish Artists Musicians for outstanding music juornalism.

Since 1998, as a media-art director he is collaborating with Krystian Zimerman and his Polish Festival Orchestra for a realisation a Chopin’s project to perform his piano concertos in the bigest musical centres of the world: in Paris, London, Brussel, Amsterdam, New York, Washington, Warsaw etc.

He is cooperated like the advisor  with Rafał Blechacz – Prize Winner of the Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw 2005.

Jan Popis is a co-maker and the artistic director of The International Competition for Young Pianists Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam in Bydgoszcz; the artistic director of The Festival of Polish Pianism in Słupsk. Since last years he is the artistic and programm director of the National Label of Polish Phonography MUZA – Polskie Nagrania. Since 2013 he is the President Associaton of Polish Artists Musicans.
